lynda.com

I discovered lynda.com a couple years ago as I was finishing up my computer studies degree. One of my instructors highly recommended it, so I had to check it out.

It was love at first sight!

See, I’m a visual kind of girl. I need to see pictures, charts, diagrams, screenshots, and videos for things to click. It’s so much easier to see someone walk me through a set of steps, instead of having to figure it out from boring paragraphs of text.

And lynda.com does just that.

So what exactly is lynda.com?

It’s a HUGE library of video courses on subjects ranging from web design, digital photography, social networking software, computer programming, and business skills, to name a few.

Each course is presented by an expert in the field, so you’re learning top notch information and skills.

Each course is divided into chapters. Each chapter contains video tutorials about the chapter topic.

What types of tutorials are offered?

There are multiple types of tutorials aimed at beginner, intermediate, and advanced users. Some of these include:

Foundations and Fundamentals

These tutorials are great if you want just a very basic overview of the software, or need to learn the fundamentals of a topic before progressing to more advanced titles.

Essential Training

Offers a comprehensive foundation of the software, such as tasks and workflow.

In Depth

Focus is on more advanced features of the software.

Projects

Walks you through the steps to create a particular project using the software.

Documentaries

These free videos showcase some of the superstar professionals in their fields. Viewers learn about their job duties, how they got where they did in their careers, and advice on what it takes to excel. Super inspirational!

How much does it cost?

Some video tutorials are available to watch for free. You are required to purchase a subscription to have access to all of the content.

There are multiple subscription options to choose from.

You can purchase a basic monthly subscription, which runs you only $25.

The premium monthly subscription is $37.50. This option gives you access to exercise files, so you can perform the same tasks as the instructor during the tutorial.

The nice thing about the monthly plans is there’s no long term commitment. You can cancel or renew your subscription at any time. I canceled for a few months, and then renewed my account later. So simple.

*Note: lynda.com will automatically charge your credit card each month, so just be sure to cancel before the renew date for that month. You can find the renew date in your my account tab.

Annual subscriptions are also available.

Considering you would pay hundreds, or even thousands of dollars, for ONE college course on ONE subject, it’s well worth the price. Believe me, been there done that!

Happy learning!
